Volunteer and Resident band ‘Stringalong’ a hit at Candlelit Christmas Concert

Age Concern Epsom & Ewell

Friday 5th December, Christ Church, Epsom.

Last Friday evening, Nigel, Linden, Linda, and Carole, along with Southern Oaks Nonsuch residents, Dickie and Vanessa, participated in Age Concern’s Christmas Concert. Our group, know as Stringalong, earned a standing ovation from the 120 attendees!

The evening was compèred by famous entertainer, Tim Vine, who had the audience in stitches with his quick wit and hilarious humour. As well as ourselves, there were fabulous performances from The Sunnybank Trust, Realistic Music Academy, The Bill Hilly Band and the wonderful The Heart & Soul Choir – all making it a truly fabulous night of music and laughter.

The Singalong volunteers have been entertaining the residents on a Saturday evening at Southern Oaks Nonsuch, the independent living development on Old Schools Lane in Ewell Village, for over three years.

Earlier this year, it was decided to introduce the ukulele into the mix. With one or two having some experience of the instrument, they formed ‘Stringalong’ which included both volunteers and residents! Some participants had never played an instrument before, let alone a stringed one, so the learning curve was pretty steep.

Now, just 10 months later, they were thrilled to be part of the Candlelit Christmas Concert at Age Concern Epsom & Ewell at Christ Church in front of so many people.

This performance is a rewarding reflection of the group’s dedication, and we at Southern Oaks, couldn’t be prouder of their accomplishments.
